this is possible via the role system using the subtree method.
Just create a new role say "editor" and add a new rules say content/read. "Then select allow limited" until you see the subtree selection box. You can also set secuirty on a single node. Its all there, take a look and test it out, it takes a little time to get it right and secure. But you will be ok :)

Thanks for the info. I can't see a way to take access away from a user/role, only give access (read). Is there a way to say no access on a certain section or directory. Maybe I am not understanding you correctly, so maybe an example would work better.
My Site:
Root Folder
-Products
-Services
-About -Partners
Now I want any person who browses to be able to view all pages in the Products, Services and About folders. But only users who have a login and actually login can view the contents of the Partners folder.
Is it possible to give me an outline of how this would be done?
