If you want to have some binary file indexation in eZ, it's possible with the standard search engine. You just have to find some text convertors, and to implement an handler to use it for building the text to index. If so, don't forget to check the "searchable" flag of the "file" attribute of the "file" class, it's off by default. Afterwhat, you should consider activate delayed indexation (there is some topics about this on this site).
