You said in your reply that " I am certain others have created solutions for already (re: eZNetwork), Can you please explain that comment in details please.
Create database
Copy database from live site
Install eZ
Use eZ upgrade tool and phpMyAdmin to synchronize the old data to the new database structure
Set the "container" flag on the custom classes and folders for the system (manual or script)
Copy the templates from the live site, change ownership and permissions
Copy any images and data stored
Update override.ini manually
Update template priorities
Copy the stylesheets Integrate new CMS into existing site (rename the directory)
I think you would need a fairly sophisticated script to handle the upgrade, but it could be done. All these steps took about 2 hours (the first run took 10 hours, to find all the steps).
I was really impressed with how well the upgrade went (credit goes to eZ publish), because these were complex sites.
eZNetwork is a closed source paid service soulution from eZ Systems, the creators of eZ Publish.
from 3.6.x to 3.6.y is mostly just overwriting the old files with new ones.
As long as you havn't changed / hacked anny files, this should be enough.
+ clear all cache after doing it. + optional: db backup before doing it
