eZ publish (while not entirely supported, yet, by eZ systems) <i>does</i> work very well in most situations with Apache 2, there can be a few quirks but they very on a given server configuration.
That said I use eZ publish almost exclusively with Apache 2 Have you tried using eZ publish with Apache 2? What were your results?
I just want to add that the reason for not fully support Apache2 lies in Apache 2 multithreading nature. PHP relies on many libraries which are not thread safe. As a result, using the multithreaded apache2 can result in "interesting" threading issues. Except making all the libraries PHP depends on thread safe, there is nothing we can do about this.
