No not from what I have seen ....

Also you should use the override system and not create a full copy of an existing design.

Rather add only the templates you need to customize the design to meet your needs.

In this case less is more. Creating a design extension to this end is not hard.

Thanks for the reply. I've read that article and it helped some, maybe I need to go over it again. Perhaps I'm headed the wrong way here and need to focus more on the CSS as I'm mostly concerned right now with the colors, font and other superficial changes to the site.

I am sure you already went through this, but having a look at the documentation regarding the Design override system is always a very good start :
