How to get transparent image png or gif with GD ?!

I don't have imagemagick on the server but I can install it absolutely needed. Will it help? I also specified HasGD2=true in the image override settings, but no change. 2. Internet Explorer. Since it doesn't support transparent PNG's, they wouldn't be of any use anyway. ...Unless I do some server-side magic and encapsulate all PNG's in a container with AlphaImageLoader activated, for IE only. Is this doable? If yes, where should I start hacking?
