There is some magic indeed: a setting that the ezwebin extension has added to the site.ini config file, which lists the classes that should not appear when showing the children of a folder.
Don't ask me why, but it is initialized to folder + link.
So just override the value of [ChildrenNodeList] and you should be fixed.

Ah, I didn't know that spell... The setting is in content.ini btw, just in case someone else needs this too, but that was easy to find with the information you gave - thanks!
Slightly OT: I wanted to add this information as comment on the tech manual link page, but it seems mere level-1-wizards are currently not allowed to do so. A pity, because there is still much information that should be in the docs...
FWIW even seasoned necromancers are currently shut off from the commenting system on docs.ez.no.
I have asked for this to be reopened asap - maybe you can file an issue / add your vote to existing issue on issues.ez.no to add weight to that request...

Right, voting seems to be broken, but commenting works there. Btw, I noticed a strange phenomenon after enabling the link visibility: Content became invisible. :-P (Yes, the apprentice again, I know...)
I still need to test a bit more, but what I found so far is that in the admin backend, after clicking on the Content tab, the content tree on the left is still there and also the quicklinks on the right, but the middle is empty...
Frontend is still OK, have not found other affected areas yet. Is it worth filing a bug for 4.3 now that 4.4 is out? (At the CMS I previously used it was not worth...)
