Thank you Lukasz for pointing me to the correct template. I have created an override template from it and added my 3 fields. It looks like I haven't done it right, or perhaps there is another stage I don't know about. I have copied the format of the user name and email address but used my fieldnames eg.

for email: {'Email'|i18n('design/standard/user/register')}: {$user.email}

so I have {'Weekly Updates'|i18n('design/standard/user/register')}: {$user.weekly_updates}

The prompts are appearing on the registration email but nothing to indicate the checkbox was ticked. What do I have to do to get something to display to show whether the checkbox has been ticked?
