Silly question: is the attribute "required"?If not, you should file a bug-report, when you can re-produce the error.

Marco - good point, but the first thing I checked. Unfortunately it wasn't that simple. Instead I've opted for a text line which I can easily check the status of - and which saves correctly each time! Thanks.

For anyone interested the problem was resolved when I upgraded to 3.3.2.
