Currently there are lots of dependencies between different library/kernel classes. eZ publish ( < 4 ) doesn't have the lose coupling benefit the eZ components have (you hardly can't use mock objects). Therefor I think it would be quite difficult to write good unit tests for the current eZ publish versions.
