In which template are you displaying the variables, pagelayout or one of the override templates? Do you have caching (templatecache, templatecompile, viewcaching) enabled or disabled?

All in all, I am developing a specific datatype inside my own extension. So, the templates are in the folder: extension/<my extension>/design/standard/templates/content/datatype/edit and view. This dataype is used by an attribute of a specific class.
And for my tests, I systematically clear the entire cache.
