This looks like a problem with the cookies, which ez (like most other websites) uses to store the id of the session on your computer. If your security settings are to high, the cookie cannot be stored and eZ does not know that you are logged in.
In a similar case, we resorted to using Fiddler - the MS tool equivalent to firebug/livehttpheader. We found out that IE was sending two session cookies to eZ. Setting eZ to use a different session name per siteaccess fixed the problem
