there was a preview version of the newsletter in the early days when it was in development. I don't know maybe you took that one.
But anyway, in the current version 1.5.1 we tried to make it much easier to use the extension. So that for the most things you don't have to customize much to fit your needs. Currently the setup is aimed to be installed as stand alone system (that of work together with another system by linking) or that you install it manually.
For the manual installation on an existing site a guide will follow describing this process. The bug you've mentioned I wasnt able to reproduce yet with the 1.5 version.
Ok, I didn't know about the 1.5.1 version. This page:
http://ez.no/community/contribs/applications/ez_newsletter/ says the last version is 1.0. Before making my diffs, I've downloaded the extension by clicking "Download contribution" on the previous page. I think I got the 1.0 version.
