Well, haven't looked at the specific issues, but a clean patch for a issue increases the chance quite alot..

I don't know if search works good enough, but you can try searching the issues I opened in the last 13 months - a whopping 168!
And the majority of those are still both open and uncommented.

But every now and then I get a comment or a question from a dev about a bug I filed 6 months ago or more, and then I tell myself: "hey, the process is working after all!"

On those very special occasions, a bug I filed gets assigned the magic comment "fixed in svn rev. xxx", and I am filled with a sense of happiness and pride for the whole day, for helping make a better product.

On a more serious note, having bus filed is a big boon to the community - even when they do not get fixed in a "reasonable" amount of time.
For one thing, it saves time for the developer who later stumbles upon the same problem. Finding that the bug is already there spares him the time of doing a complete test / bug hunt cycle.
For another, somebody else might come along and post a patch or a workaround, even after a long time.
Last but not least, eZ Systems coders, even though apparently slow, are supposed to be aware of open bugs, so that they avoid repeating the same mistakes in new code.

So please, keep them coming!

Hi,

well, I think the ez crew handles the bug reports very seriously.

I filed up about 450 issues in the last years, about 120 are open. The others were closed (fixed, invalid, not reproducable etc.)

Without patches and resolved issues from you or others over the years, yeah it can really be frustrating, down right infuriating. Suicidy inspiring it can be come all to quickly like taking piss to the neck.

Yet if you do contribute patches to issues or git others to do it for you or have your own patches accepted in some form or another ... It's mesc* hyde awenspiring an more. Gaetano tells an interesting tale.

If it was your own and you didn't get any patches or funding what would you say. I'd prolly keep complaining outloud through their radio edits in real time.

At the end of a worthless day cooking in the sun living in your car for how many weeks after loosing everything I ever lived for all over again for refusing the devil and loosing ...

I can hear the overlords chuckyling and saying to the masses in the compound, "Patches Will Be Revealed At The Proficied Time".

At least I fought as long as I did. Did you? Watch out they sneak up behind you, in your sleep, totalitaria core melt down for what.

I basically share Gaetano's point of view.

However, Zurgutt's remark may to some extent reflect eZ System's restructuring over the last year, and developer vacancies, which made most of community members that I spoke to quite anxious. That seems to be changing now. I haven't been around long enough to confirm or disconfirm the connection.

@kracker: I dream of getting, one day, my English skills to the level where I can fully understand your point ;) I just hope it's only the matter of the language - I may not be able to upgrade anything else... ;)

Good post, Gaetano.

However I must explain better. It is not bugs not being fixed quickly that irks me. It would be unrealistic to expect issues being solved the very same day. Or week. Or few months maybe. There are priorities, thats understandable. Thats just fine.

Or if bug report is confusing or vague or hard to reproduce or needs additional information - no problem at all. One comment from person in charge of it and I or any other reporter will happily scramble to get more info, or test again, or whatever.

Or if it obviously useless, just mark it invalid and close it, thats fine!!

But it is really insulting seeing your contribution just being ignored for years, without any reaction whatsoever. It feels bad. Like, real bad.

I ran a search on issue tracker and it seems that in average over last year it has got 5 issue reports per day. It should be well within abilities of ez crew to respond to 5 issues per day. Ask for more info, assign them, close them, god forbid fix them, SOMETHING. And the code would greatly benefit from it.

Useless well... I dunno, but Zurgutts last post in this thread makes sense to me.

Like, bugs about the bugtracker don't even get a response from the .ez crew. I don't know the other 2 people in http://issues.ez.no/IssueView.php?Id=12848&activeItem=1 but i wouldn't be surprised if they loose their motivation.

If eZ wants to motivate the community the least they can do is comment, assing, close,.... their bugs.

Concerning the issue http://issues.ez.no/IssueView.php?Id=12848 I can only say that this is an issue concerning the issue tracker itself, wIT, developed by Waterproof. This, and many other issues in this system, are unfortunately not fixed by Waterproof. It seems like their bug tracking system is abandonware. According to their website [http://www.waterproof.fr/products/wit/] the last update to it was in january 2007.
