2) yes. very capable, actually.
3) yes
4) I don't think so. You can have the system resize them automatically depending on the context though.
5) Maybe.
6) Yes
7) There's an extension I think
8) Possible, might need some configuration. Not sure if it works without sticky sessions. The load balancing part would probably have to be implemented elsewhere (think IP level or DNS round robin load balancing).
9) Both

4) You can set up ImageMagick to crop, resize and add effects, but there's no WYSIWYG Image Editor included, as far as I know

3) Yes
4) can images be edited in the browser (resize, crop, effects?)
You can write an extension and take the JavaScript from http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/ then it should work.
5) is there some visitor tracking extension?
http://ez.no/community/forum/suggestions/better_tracking_of_visitors

8) is cluster/loadbalancing possible?
Yes it is. eZ publish has the possibility to redirect all database writes to one server and do reading (SELECTs) from multiple servers.

Actually, ez.no is running on two servers now. We use Linux Virtual Server for loadbalancing/failsafing, one MySQL database and a cronjob which ensure cache files and uploaded files are synced.

Ole:

Do you have more information on that configuration? I'm busy setting up a LVS cluster, and am curious.

Is it just rsync you're using, or something more?

I'd use rsync (it's usually the best thing for the job altho not realtime it's still pretty fast).

Or if you have too much money, two NetApp Filers as backend mounted via NFS ;-).

Yea, Netapps make for fast applications and empty bank accounts I'm afriad. They're so 2001. ;-)

Actually, I've set up a simple LVS cluster, and it seems to be working pretty well. We set up one of these for a client earlier this year, but it wasn't eZ related (icky proprietary CMS).

Hi,

I'm also evaluating ezPublish at the moment and would be grateful for any information you could give me.

1: Someone answered above that you can edit articles through both the front and back ends, but I've never seen any demo using front end editing. Is there any documentation on doing this?

2: No-one answered the question about cleaning up when copying and pasting from MS Word. Can the Online Editor do this?

3: Is it possible to add standardised metadata to objects and restrict the options available to be selected? (i.e. using Dublin Core with a restricted vocabulary)

4: Is it possible to use a thesaurus integrated into the search system. For example, to return search results for related words.

5: Has anyone tried integrating NTLM or similar authentication to that people can simply open an intranet page rather than having to sign on?

Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

>>1: Someone answered above that you can edit articles through both the front and back ends, but I've never seen any demo using front end editing. Is there any documentation on doing this?
This should help http://ez.no/ez_publish/documentation/customization/tips_tricks/editing_creating_and_removing_content_from_the_user_page

>>2: No-one answered the question about cleaning up when copying and pasting from MS Word. Can the Online Editor do this?
Yes this is possible and effective. It does have some limitations. Basically if the Online editor does not do it then it will not cut and paste. Give it a try it's really quite good.

>>3: Is it possible to add standardised metadata to objects and restrict the options available to be selected? (i.e. using Dublin Core with a restricted vocabulary)
Yes eZ publish supports the dublin core. you will need to add a datatype for category and for some of the other optional elements of the standard but this is not difficult.

>>4: Is it possible to use a thesaurus integrated into the search system. For example, to return search results for related words.
I am sure it is as you can extend the search engine. You may want to look at the Lucene based search engine on this site as this may give you what you want.

>>5: Has anyone tried integrating NTLM or similar authentication to that people can simply open an intranet page rather than having to sign on?
You can extend the login mechanism so yes it is possbile. Some one else must have some info on this. Sorry. I do not :(

I hope this helps
