Ok new, update. I actually found another thread with a different issue, and I then used the information and updated my php.ini and increased the script timeout time, and I can now install

ez publish 3.9.2 on php 4.3.9

The only thing I am going to do next is to install a php accelerator, as there isn't one on installed on my system.

3.9.2 is actually very very spiffy.... wow... I am impressed, and can't wait to see a version 4, or higher 3.9.x versions.

"If it didnt work I was about to give up on it, and go with a differnet cms."

It would probably help if you'd try it on the correct PHP version. eZ publish 3.7+ should be run on PHP 4.4, 3.6 and earlier are made for PHP 4.3. Doing it the other way around is a shot in the dark (and not guaranteed to work either).

But what are the specifics of php 4.4.x that aren't included in 4.3.9
The only reason i actually tried it is because another linux developed recommended i try it, as he said a lot of times some packages are updated internally, but they still preserve the general version number they came with. So I tried it, and it worked. I think we should push things and see how much further we can get, and help this program to expand. I am not sure if I am just lucky in it working, but if it is not just me, then the requirements should be changed, I will put down my exact version number so that others can atleast update theres to the correct php 4.3.9.x number and will be fine, without having to re compile php and other things.

The difference between PHP 4.3 and 4.4? A memory corruption fix for references that broke binary compatibility between 4.3 and 4.4. Actually, that's the reason they increased the minor version.

When PHP's minor version changes, it usually means there are compatibility breaking changes. Otherwise they'd just release a bugfix release with the same minor version.

Ok my exact php version is php 4.3.9-3.22.5, on a centos 4.4 box, running apache 2.0.52 . So far knock on wood it is running fine for me.

Please read this topic:
http://ez.no/community/forum/install_configuration/php_4_3_9_ez_publish_3_9_0/re_php_4_3_9_ez_publish_3_9_0__7

Especially the part from Derick, one of the php developers.
Of course it works, but we can't recommend our customers to risk data corruption can we?

So please stop this nonsense thread where you try to recruit people to overlook our requirements, they are usually there for a reason!

Ok, well thanks for the valuable information, I did read the supplied thread, and consequently the php.net's info as well. At the same time this isn't nonsense that I am speaking, I did search for more info first, and didn't see that post. I am however in the process of learning a new beast, and also if possible attempting to spread knowledge as I learn it. I understand now that this issue has already been discussed. I may try to update my software, so that i can continue to use ez publish, as I have grown attached to it, in my week of using it. Thanks again for all of your quick efforts, and knowledge.

Sharing is good, don't let me stop you :)

I might been a bit to harsh in the last thread, but you really should use the correct version of php. Even running the php5 community version under php5 would be more recommended then your setup. The only thing you risk is lots of strict warnings and might get a fatal error in edge cases (but most of them are ironed out).
