Hi David,
there is one option you can check which doesn't take too much time. Install a clean eZ Flow instance, go to the admin where you have the option to export/create an extension into an eZ Package (.ezpkg). Also see http://doc.ez.no/eZ-Publish/Technical-manual/4.x/Features/Packages/Exporting-packages-to-files.
You could then try to install the package on your already installed 4.4 instance. I've not tried this, so you might want to test it first.
