eZ publish 3.6, like the rest of all 3.x releases (3.7, 3.8, 3.9) will all require PHP 4 and are not and will not be compatible with PHP 5.
Starting with eZ publish 4.0, eZ publish will require PHP 5.

As there is a language option in the php.ini of php5 to enable Zend-Engine 1, it would be interesting if eZ would run under php5.
zend.ze1_compatibility_mode boolean Enable compatibility mode with Zend Engine 1 (PHP 4). It affects the cloning, casting, and comparing of objects.
