Yes I needed to do this as well. It is required for all roles and works in a strange way.
I have a Authors role. without this permission users in this role could login into the admin section but couldn't do anything!

I'm creating a set-by-step howto which I will post here and to the wiki once I have confirmed it.
If you are writing the article, take a look at the bugs section there are several I posted at the weekend that are needed to get RC2 going. Also there is a problem with size="original" for images, it seems to return "small" for some reason... might just be me, so i posted to support instead of bug.

How about a "known issues" page on the Wiki? The bug system on this site is OK but it is difficult to see what is a real issue and what is an installation problem.
