I think by default this is not possible in ezp 4 or 3.9.x.

In multiple sites with one installation we use host setup, but it's true that a model like:

ezp installation:

-> site1.com
----> site1.com/eng
----> site2.com/de

-> site2.com
----> site2.com/eng
----> site2.com/de

is more frequent in the web (logical?) than using subdomains for every language. To prevent subdomains like eng.site.com we recommend our users to use specific domains for each language (for example with different country code top-level domain)

In the forum there are various posts about issues mixing host/uri and, if I'm not wrong, no one solved it:

Thank you for your reply. I guess I'll go with only host-matching then, but I'll try out quickly if something has changed and made it possible to mix and match host and uri. If it's possible, I'll post my response here. Just noticed another thread about the same issue.

At this moment mixing host and uri is not possible, there are various post in this forum about people trying it... perhaps you have luck - if so post your solution! ;)
