You might try setting CheckValidity=true in settings/override/site.ini.append and reloading the site to see if that will work in this case.

Should I delete the database and make a new one or can I just use the one I've played with?

You can try not doing it, you should get the option to overwrite it during install.You might get issues if the package tries to install packages you already have, and if you do you might want to do a clean install instead.
