I dont know exactly why it isn't working, but you could try modifying the siteaccess rules in the relevant site.ini (is it /settings/override/site.ini.append.php?). Check if the uri matching is set up properly. Maybe try the host map method? (this is the easiest one to setup)

I agree with Karsten.
This MUST be ;) the missing step.

Hi, I've had the exact same thing happen to me: I copied the demo folder and renamed it "mydesign" and when I attempt to access I get the log-in, the admin site.

Karsten mentioned the "map method' reassigning things. This seems the easiest. Can someone give me the step by step way this is done?

By the way, in the demo, I've noticed that when I write my own articles for the news module I'm not getting the "into...body... thumbnail" options or a way of including an image with the article. What's happening here?

What I did is created my new section in design called 'watch' and then went to settings/siteaccess - created a dir called 'watch' copied the demo site.ini append from settings/demo into 'settings/watch and edited it to the new section.

hope this helps ya!

Not sure why, but this happened to me as well. I had the local ez install running eng-GB locale in overide.site.ini file .. and I changed it into no-NO. After that change I was not able to get the intro, body and thumbnail entry boxes. When I switched the locale back it worked though.

Not sure if you have done something similar??

Here's where I get lost again.

1: how do you 'create a dir?

2. What do you mean by 'copied site.ini append'? -- what is 'site.ini append' and why is it necessary to copy?

3. What do you mean why you say 'and edited it to the new section'?

Thanks,
Ric

Really don't understand the 'override' concept, so I not using it. But, yes, when I tried creating my own article in the demo I did not get the intro, body, and thumbnail options for it.

Will someone explain what the trick is here?

Thanks Katie! That did the trick.

Ric, I feel Katie's instruction are all you need to get this working but I will try to spell things out a little for you.

Go into your design folder and copy the contents of the demo folder to a new folder called mydesign

Now go into your settings folder then into your siteaccess folder and create a new directory (see your operating system manual on how to create a new directory) called mydesign.

Copy the file site.ini.append from settings/siteaccess/demo into your new directory (settings/siteaccess/mydesign).

Open your newly created settings/siteaccess/mydesign/site.ini.append in your favorite text editor and change the last line from:
[DesignSettings]
SiteDesign=demo

to:

[DesignSettings]
SiteDesign=mydesign

Save the file and go check out www.yourdomain.com/index.php/mydesign/

You should see the demo site but you can now edit the files under design/mydesign to create whatever new design you want without affecting the original demo site.

There are probably other ways of doing this, i.e. through the siteaccess rules as described by Karsten but I haven't been able to get them working yet. When I do I will post a full description in this thread. Unless Karsten beats me too it ;).
