Hi there pb, don't know what made you so frustrated. Anyways, let me give you some advice. First of all: read the docs. Yes, there actually are docs, and they're not bad at all. Try e.g. http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_9/installation/normal_installation to help you install ezpublish at your webprovider. Then have a look at this http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_9/concepts_and_basics to get to the essence of building a ezpublish site. Further more, try reading http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_9/templates which gives you what you need to start writing your own templates. The override system typically can be a bit confusing, read about it here http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_9/templates/the_template_override_system And most important, don't be frustrated.
