This is possible. The users and user groups in eZ publish are also nodes and they are also a part of the node tree. However, they are not placed under "content", instead they're placed under "user". Use the admin interface to find the node ID of the group(folder) that contains your users. Use that ID to fetch from and simply just display the attributes that you wish to display. You can also extend the built in user class (add an image, etc.) without any problems.
