What exactly did you do to install eZ publish? Did you install the complete (including webserver) package or just bare-bones download? Do you want to develop the site on your local PC or on your remote web server?

I installed it on a dedicated server I now log in to domainname.com:1338But what do I do next
how do I creat a website on domainname .com
I would prefer to develop it on a local pc but it has windows XP Would apache cause problems on windows?
because of this I am trying to install it on a remote Iinux server

Apache should not cause problems on XP, I think. If you install the full package for XP, it should work ok and you could develop from there.
As far as your installation is concerned, I think the user site is at domain.com:1337.
